Yearender: 5 Things That Happened in 2013

Well everyone. Another year has come and gone. And just like that, 2014 is just a few hours to go. With that in mind, let us look back at 2013 and the things that happened despite a few bumps and tragedies that have gone for this year.

5. 3D Printed Body Parts

Despite not being the top news story for the year when it comes to the world of 3D printing (they had more headlines relating to the 3D printed gun), this has been a major breakthrough for the medical industry. Now patients who have lost body parts can now get to have body parts out of a 3D printed without having to fear tissue rejection which has been a huge problem for transplant patients all these years. And 2013 has been a great witness for that feat.

4. Pope Francis

With the resignation of the former head of the largest religious group in the world came the emergence of a new pope in the name of Jorge Mario Bergoglio who is widely known today as Pope Francis. Being the first Jesuit pope and the first pope to ever do and say a lot of radical things, he is now gaining popularity for a lot of his good deeds as a pope and his views on things which has haunted the religious sector for a lot of years.

3. Prince George of Cambridge

The year 2013 also became witness for the birth of England's next heir. This may not be big news for most of the people outside of the Kingdom but this can actually change the course of the world in the years to come. And of course a birth of a child is always a happy thought. Look at that cute little thing and tell me "adorable" isn't the perfect word.

2. Tragedies, Calamities and Natural Disasters

For a large number of people, 2013 has also been a year of a lot of tragedies and calamities that have ravaged a lot of countries. In April, an old factory in Bangladesh collapsed leaving over a thousand people dead and two thousand more injured. The United States was once again a target of a terrorist attack when two brothers bombed the annual Boston Marathon, fortunately only 3 people were killed but leaving a few more injured. Speaking of attacks, a mall in Nairobi, Kenya was attacked by a group of militants leaving 62 civilians dead and 150 injured. Also later in the year my own country the Philippines was struck with two natural disasters namely the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and then Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda - the strongest typhoon to ever hit any country leaving more than 6,000 thousand people dead and missing. These calamities and attacks have been devastating for the people affected, but the resilience of the people and their will to move on has proven to be very effective.

1. Deaths of Celebrities and Prominent Figures

Nelson Mandela
Paul Walker
James Gandolfini
Death is inevitable. Even celebrities and prominent figures are not immune to it. A few of the famous people who passed away this year was the former South African president Nelson Mandela who died at the age of 95. 2013 also witnessed the passing of James Gandolfini, an American actor known for his role as Tony Soprano in the series The Sopranos. Another actor who passed away this year was Paul Walker who was widely known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the movie series Fast and Furious which was on the process of shooting for the 7th installment when Walker and his friend Roger Rodas crashed the Porsche Carrera GT they were driving after a night of partying for a cause.

But despite all of the crazy things that happened in 2013, those who have survived it, well let us just look ahead and hope that 2014 will be a better year than the last. And one more thing, let us just let bygones be bygones, forgive one another let 2014 bring its storm as we will surely weather it. What about you? Do you have some good memories to share for the last year? Don't forget to comment below and share! Cheers mates! Happy New Year!

Entertainment: Rurouni Kenshin 2 The Great Kyoto Arc Official Trailer HD 2014 - A Review

To all anime fans especially those who really followed the adventures of our dearest reverse edge sword yielding friend Kenshin Himura from the animated series Samurai X, and to those who have witnessed the wonderful live action adaptation, this is really the sequel to watch for. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the unofficial review of the trailer for one of 2014's sure blockbuster hit Rurouni Kenshin 2: The Great Kyoto Arc.

The trailer starts off with Kenshin ducking and making a run for it above an old Japanese building (I'm just emphasizing the "old" part since this is supposed to be set on an old Japanese era.). And it is then followed by a couple of scenes where you can see the Great Battousai the Manslayer kicking several butts while still following his "Thou Shalt Not Kill" rule, meaning he hits them in strategic areas in the body to render them unconscious or at least unable to fight back temporarily. But nonetheless, it's still awesome! And once again, we will get to see Kenshin in live action doing what he does best.

Going back to the title: The Great Kyoto Arc, this would only mean one thing to those who have watched the animated series: Shishio Makoto, one of the series' villain, will probably be in the movie. And he actually is! He is shown in the later part of the trailer just as Kenshin is drawing his sword. Another hint this trailer has given Samurai X fans a giggle is the fact that Shishio's gang Juppongatana will probably be in the movie with him, as it would be meaningless to not include them since they are Shishio's most trusted company which will pose a great threat to Kenshin and his friends.

Verdict: With this trailer I would probably rate it 8/10, simply cause I did not understand a single Japanese word from the trailer. They could have just placed tiny subtitles for the non Japanese fans but from my point of view, the trailer simply tells it all. It would have been nice to also see a glimpse of Kenshin's friends but I guess they decided to let us enjoy their company while watching the movie itself. But yes, this is a great thing to be looking forward to in 2014! How about you guys? Are you as excited as I am for this coming of this What do you think? Do not be shy to like, comment and share this review with your friends. Cheers everyone and happy new year!

Entertainment: Arrow Season 2 Episode 9 "Three Ghosts" Review

DISCLAIMER: As exciting as this episode of DC and CW's episode might be, I will try my very best to write as few spoilers as possible, because I know it would be useless to write a review of this episode without ever having to give out some details about this very interesting episode for all comic book and Green Arrow fans alike.

This week fans of Arrow just bear witness to a jaw dropping, heart pumping and very revealing episode of DC's very own television series Arrow. Though the series has been going on for 2 seasons now, let me just clarify that this episode is very much worth writing a review for, simply because of the wonderful things that transpired during its 43 minutes airing time.

One of the good points in this episode of Arrow is the showcasing of not only one major DC character, but other minor characters as well (as we have witnessed in their previous episodes). Featured in this episode is the reappearance of none other than Barry Allen, who will later be famously known as The Flash, protector of Central City. And have been reported to have its very own series as a spin-off of Arrow. Another character that we can see during this episode is the villain Cyrus Gold, a villain imbued with superhuman strength and is under the command of Brother Blood, which in turn is under the command of a more powerful individual who will probably give Oliver Queen and his gang some real problems in the future. This individual is actually revealed in this episode but for the sake of those who still haven't watched it yet, I will not do so.

In this episode Oliver Queen comes face to face with people from his past, hence the title "Three Ghosts". These "ghosts" actually helped Oliver in realizing his real purpose of donning the hood while dealing with some minor problems of his own. This is also the first time some people from the island are actually seen on the "present" setting of Arrow. This is also the episode where Oliver Queen dumps his green eye dye to the Green Arrow mask we all know and love. And whose idea was it for him to change the mask? Watch it.

This one.
Verdict:
With all the exciting twists and turns this episode has shown, I personally would rate this episode 9/10, with a very little room for improvement. Since the beginning of this series CW and Arrow has really stepped it up with every episode, and they have actually stepped up big time for this one. For those who haven't seen Arrow or those who have held back due to recent letdowns in comic based television series, this actually is a show worth viewing.

Entertainment: Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer Review

Backed by a few countdown posts and videos in various social media sites, Marvel finally showed the entire world the much awaited trailer for the second installment of the reboot of our friendly neighborhood Spider-man. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will feature the return of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spiderman as well as Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and other similar characters from the first Amazing Spider-Man movie.

For starters, upon watching the early part of the trailer, we can hear Andrew Garfield/Peter Parker say "The more people I try to save, the more enemies I will make". And villains are never out of stock in this movie judging by its trailer. Here we see the emergence of Peter Parker's best friend Harry Osborn played by none other than Dane DeHaan from movies like Kill Your Darlings and Chronicle. But aside from the up and coming Green Goblin, the trailer actually gives us a sneak peek of a couple of villains that will be shown in the movie and possibly in the third installment (if hopefully there will be one).

One notable villain in this movie (or perhaps the main one) is Jamie Foxx's Electro which has been big villain in the Spider-Man world especially in the video games. Another one will be Paul Giamatti's Rhino which will surely be a pain in the rear for our favorite web-slinger. Add Green Goblin to that and a couple more villain suits that can be seen throughout the trailer and boom! You got yourself a very Amazing Spider-Man trailer indeed.

Verdict:
Judging from the 7.6 million views in YouTube, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will surely attract millions of watchers and Spider-Man fanatics worldwide, including me. And if I were to ask, I'm beginning to like Andrew Garfield more as Spider-Man than Toby Maguire (though he held his own in the movies though so, respect). I just hope the movie will be as awesome as its trailer, or even better. And moreover, I hope and really pray that it will somehow tie up to the ongoing Avengers story line as well. What do you think guys? Tell me what you feel and comment below!

Moto: Safety Tips When Traveling on a Motorcycle

People who own a motorcycle, we love to ride. Whether it may be to and from work, going to certain places and long travels, it is more fun when done on a motorcycle. And why not? You can feel the air, see all the wonderful sights and simply enjoying the freedom of being on a motorcycle.

But one of the reasons why a lot of people are still discouraged on having their own motorcycle is that it can be very dangerous. Compared to a car which has 4 wheels, a two wheeled vehicle will always be at a disadvantage. However, it is good to know that a lot of the bad things that can happen to a person riding a motorcycle can be avoided or prevented just by following a few simple steps. These simple things can spell the difference between you enjoying your ride and you ending up in a hospital bed. So without further adieu, here are a few safety tips that everyone can follow when riding a motorcycle.

  • Road Positioning - Where you place yourself and your motorcycle on the road is a very big factor in determining safety when on a ride. This is mainly because cagers (people who are on 4 wheeled vehicles) tend to ignore motorcyclist as they pass on. So proper positioning is a good step in ensuring road safety. Where to position yourself on the road during a ride? On the RIGHT side of the road, or at least a little bit on the right from the center of the road. This will give you the chance to pull up the roadside in case anything happens (a fast car merging with you on the road or overtaking). Why not the left side? Because staying on the left will make you prone to collisions with vehicles from the opposite side and the middle part of the road is where oil from cars usually accumulate which will not be safe for motorcycles. Pictured below is the perfect place where a motorcyclist can position himself/herself while on the road.
The rider is on the right side of the road for safety.
  • Turning Signals - The purpose of the yellow lights that can be found on both sides of your motorcycle is to determine where you would want to make a turn, so that motorists behind you can make all the necessary adjustments when you do so. This is why the turning signals have to be turned off once you have already made the turn to avoid confusion. During daytime when turning lights can be unnoticeable at times, making hand waving signals when making a turn can also help in keeping yourself safe while on the road.

  • Visibility - This is perhaps one of the basic things that a motorcyclist must learn before hopping on a motorcycle. And this is one of the most important thing to remember because as stated above, cagers are the worst enemies of motorcyclist, and part of it has to do with visibility. How to keep yourself visible to everyone on the road? For starters, wear a light colored helmet. Yes, going all black when riding automatically makes you a badass, but when it comes to problems with visibility, you have only yourself to blame. Invest in a light colored helmet or better yet, get one that will be most visible especially during nighttime. Wear light colored clothing or a vest with reflectors on it when riding at night. And staying on the right side of the road? This also allows cagers to see you from their side mirrors adding visibility. Keeping your headlight on during the day also adds visibility during riding even at daytime. This is the reason why a lot of motorcycle manufacturers nowadays keep the headlights on even during daytime. Adding LED lights (not blinkers!) to your motorcycle will also help.
Motorcyclist on a highly visible helmet and gears.

  • Do Not Overspeed - Overspeeding is easily one of the top reasons for most road accidents and fatalities. Though cranking up your motorcycle can be fun, it would almost always cause a lapse in mental judgement causing miscalculations that can result to accidents while on the road. So keep your speed to a minimum. Obey traffic rules especially speed limits. Because even though you may end up alive, you will most likely still end up having your license messed up or worse, end up in jail.
Follow them or else.

  • Wear Your Gears - Last but not definitely the least, investing in safety gears would totally give you a lot of benefits in the future. Even though safety gears such as crash helmets, padded gloves, elbow and knee protectors as well as spine protectors can be quite pricey, they would spell the difference between you alive and well or ending up paralyzed or worse, dead after an accidents. Always remember that no matter how careful you are when riding, there will always be people who would try to kill on the road by going reckless and there is no telling when it will happen.
Right on.
So those are just some of the tips that you can follow to ensure your safety (and your rider if you have one) when riding on a motorcycle. Just remember to be aware of your surroundings when traveling and never forget to enjoy the ride.

Entertainment: Thor: The Dark World Review

Disclaimer: Before I make this review of Thor: The Dark World I would just like to say that I have had my share of watching superhero themed movies for quite some time. And with that I can say that I (may be) qualified to make a review of a movie. So without further adieu, I bring to you the review of Thor: The Dark World. And don't worry folks, it does not contain spoilers so this review would be good for those who haven't seen the movie yet.

For those who didn't know, Thor: The Dark World is actually the second installment of Marvel's thunder god movie. And even though the movie picked up some pieces from the first one like Jane Foster ended up looking for Thor a couple of years after the incident in New Mexico, it still has some fresh elements into it.

Plot

Thor: The Dark World is basically about Thor trying to patch things up after the first movie and The Battle of New York, which happened in the Avengers. Thor and his gang were tasked to bring peace to all of the 9 realms while a "strange" phenomenon was happening in Midgard (Earth). An ancient enemy returns from its slumber to seek revenge to the Asgardians and eventually conquer all realms and regain their race's old glory with the help of an ancient relic.

Setting

Majority of the film took place in two worlds: Earth(Midgard) and Asgard. However in some parts several realms were shown depicting Thor's efforts of restoring peace and order. In the movie we are also introduced into another realm known as Svartalfheim, which will be explained thoroughly during the earlier parts of the movie. And because of the "strange" phenomenon that wraps the entire film, you will be able to see shifting of worlds especially on the later part of the movie. Loki, following the events of The Battle of New York is being held prisoner in Asgard.

Characters

Die hard Thor fans will be glad to know that most of the characters from the first Thor movie came back for this second installment (except the dead ones, of course). Chris Hemsworth (of course) plays Thor as well as Natalie Portman who plays Jane Foster, Thor's love interest. Thor's gang in Asgard also returns for the movie as well as the infamous Dr. Erik Selvig played by none other than Stellan Skarsgard and Odin, played by Sir Anthony Hopkins. Returning for the movie is of course Thor's most beloved brother Loki played by Tom Hiddleston. Dr. Who's Christopher Eccleston plays the Character of Malekith the Accursed, which will be Thor's adversary in this film.

Verdict

Thor: The Dark World is actually a good follow up to the second film. The superb CG effects backed up by wonderful portrayal by the actors delivered a good punch to a movie sequel. But what amazes me the most about this movie and all Marvel movies in particular is the tie up between all characters and their storyline which have been evident starting from Thor 1, Captain America and to the Avengers and now to this. There were even rumors running around that the same storyline will be patched to Marvel's very own TV Series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which has its own sets of twists as well. Overall, Thor: The Dark World is a very satisfying film packed with Marvel's signature mixture of action, comedy and a little bit of romance. With this I give Thor: The Dark World a rating of 4.5 out of 5, simply because there will always be a room for improvement. Watch it, you will surely not regret seeing the God of Thunder on the big screen for the third time. After all, it would not hit $109 million in box office overseas for nothing.

P.S.

In case you forgot that this is a Marvel movie, and just like the previous Marvel movies there will always be extra scenes after the credits. So after the credits roll, don't jump off your seats just yet. You will be in for a big surprise.

Entertainment: Movies to Watch out in 2015

I know, 2015 is still a long way to go. There will still be at least more than 15 months until that year comes, and there are still a lot things that can happen until then. But in the movie industry, it would be good to know that a lot of big blockbuster films are in the works that will surely rock everyone's worlds. So listed below are just a few of these films that movie addicts (including myself) will look forward to in 2015.

Man of Steel 2
"Man of Steel 2" : Batman VS Superman

Yes, ever since it was announced in the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con it has stirred a lot of controversies and questions were raised especially when it was announced that former Daredevil and Argo superstar Ben Affleck will don the cowl and cape in the second installment of Henry Cavill's Superman. I don't know about you all but I am sure as hell as excited to watch this as the next Batman/Superman fan.

The Avengers: Rise of Ultron
Avengers 2
Okay maybe I'm sensing a trend here. 2015 may be a year when comic book movies will rise and take over the movie industry. This second installment of the super successful Avengers movie is Marvel Comic's very own version of a comics based movie including Antman as well as the reboot of Fantastic Four which will also be released in 2015.

The Piece of Eden

Fans of the very successful video game Assassin's Creed will surely fill movie houses when this adaptation will come in theaters. And with a very good actor in Michael Fassbender taking up the main role, this will surely be a blockbuster for geeks and nerds alike.

World of Warcraft

Speaking of movie adaptations of video games, another movie that's surely going to make geeks, nerds and gamers pee in their pants with excitement is the long awaited adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's long running game series World of Warcraft. Set to be released in December of 2015, this will be a good holiday treat for all those who have had a chance of playing this very wonderful game. And who knows, maybe they will even decide to make a movie about one of WoW's most successful spin off's (DOTA the Movie?).

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2

The first Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon movie is one of the firsts films I have seen which lasts for 2 hours, yet was filled with a lot of Kung Fu action and a lot of other traditional Chinese cinematics that a lot of people expected from films like these. And with the announcement that a second installment will be made and hopefully will be released in 2015, this is also a good thing to look out for.

Verdict
So these are just some of the movies to watch out for in the year 2015. In paper, these movies look really good. Let us just keep our fingers crossed that the people responsible for making these movies a reality will do everything in their power to make a really good movie out of these.

Gaming: GTA V - A Short Review

GTA5

For a computer game to sell $1 billion in just 3 days, it has got to be one hell of a game. This is the case for Rockstar Games' latest installment in the GTA series, GTA V. For 5 years, fans have waited for this sequel since the release of GTA IV. But what really makes this game extra special for all the hardcore and even non-hardcore gamers out there? In a few points I'll discuss some of the features of this heavily debated game.

Gameplay
GTA V follows the same style of play as its predecessors. The game is still on third person point of view, players can use melee attacks, fire guns and different kinds of weapons, fight enemies (and civilians), and the ability to use different kinds of vehicles all throughout the game. If somehow you deviate from your mission and you decide to run across town breaking laws (physics included), your wanted meter goes high like the previous versions.

Setting
GTA V is set on the fictional city of San Andreas, which is heavily mirrored on the areas around Southern California in the United States particularly Los Angeles. In fact, you can be able to see a lot of familiar buildings around the fictional city if you happen to live somewhere in Los Angeles. The iconic Hollywood sign which was changed to Vinewood and a whole lot more.

Features
GTA V won't be a blockbuster hit if just showcased the same features as its previous installments. Some added features includes the ability of the player to hide and take cover behind vehicles to avoid taking damage from shots fired by the enemies, multiplayer and co-op mode enables multiple players to play certain missions such as racing and bank heists. Another cool feature of GTA V is the ability of multiplayer groups from other Rockstar Games game to have the same team such as multiplayer teams from games like Max Payne 3.

Graphics
It can be safely said that almost 90% of gamers nowadays heavily consider a game's graphical quality to measure its awesomeness. So for GTA V, don't bother. It's just the same old high quality graphics that's almost realistic with in game explosions that's sure to blow your minds.

Conclusion
So those are just some of the things that I can mention about GTA V. For those of you who have waited long enough for the game, this is your time to crank up gaming time once again. And should you find playing the game a bit too easy or you have finished it in no time, don't worry. For games like Watch Dogs are coming to town.

Moto: Tips on How to Save Gas on Your Motorcycles (And Other Vehicles, Too)

.

Part of the reason why a lot of people choose to get our own vehicle or a motorcycle in particular is because we either hate using public transportation, public transportation is expensive, or both. But with the non-stop rise and (slight) fall of gasoline prices, it's becoming a little hard on the pocket, too. So for those of you who want to save up on the precious gas on their motorcycles or their cars, here are some helpful tips for you to know or perhaps some additional useful information if you already know some.

Lose That Weight
Motorcycles and a lot of generic vehicles on the road such as cars have an ideal weight which it can maximize it's engine power without sacrificing much on the gas consumption and all. So basically the more weight you put up to your vehicle, the more power it will require to move at a desire speed thus needing more engine power that would require an increase in gas consumption. So if you ever plan on going on a trip, try to pack lightly and bring only necessary items with you so as to not increase the weight load. In addition, filling up with a full tank also adds weight to the vehicle, so if you're just driving within the city, from your home to the office most of the time, better yet not fill up the tank so soon. Just be sure to check your levels to see if its already time to go to the nearest gas station.

Check Tire Pressure
This tip is actually one of the most talked about gas saving techniques anyone can muster should the topic of gas saving arises. Always be sure to have your tires inflated at the recommended rate to avoid unnecessary stress to your tires and to save your precious gas as well.

Gear Changing
Another tip you could use to save gas is to shift your gears properly. Traffic is nearly inevitable, but it should not be an excuse for anyone to not shift gears smoothly. If your motorcycle has a tachometer, it is best to shift gears when the tachometer reads at about 3500 to 4000 RPM's. However if your bike does not have a tachometer (like mine), you could just "feel" your bike's engine to see whether it sounded "strained", that would mean the need for you to shift gears already. To some riders, this can be quite easy, but to the inexperienced ones, a little practice would help in saving your vehicle's gas.

Braking and Speed
If you are riding on your bike but not really have the need to speed up, you really don't have to. As this would mean more power to your engine that would be needing an increase in gas consumption. Braking also increases the consumption of your gas as it would slow down your bike (obviously) and it would need an extra effort by your engine to bring you at your desired speed once again which would mean another chance of increasing gas consumption. So maintain low speed if you're not on the rush, leave the brakes alone if you don't really need it to save more gas.

Bike Displacement
Another thing that most people don't get is that the higher the displacement of your bike, the larger your gas consumption would be. Why? Because these large displacement bikes are more powerful, they are a lot faster and can go from zero to 120 in just a couple of seconds. And because doing that would require more engine effort, that would also mean a bigger need for gasoline. So bigger, faster bikes = more fuel consumption, small displacement bikes = less gas. It's not that hard to figure out.

So there you go, folks. those are just some of the little tips to help you save gas and get you farther with less gas consumption. Got any other tips on saving fuel? Don't forget to comment, share and ride safe!

Tech: Apple's iPhone 5C - Will it help turn the tides on the smartphone wars?

Apple iPhone 5C
In the wake of Apple's bold announcement about their first economy level smartphone ever the iPhone 5C. It has captured the attention of a lot of people not only in the tech world, but even those who still don't have a smartphone and want an iPhone for their first super computer handset. But what are the features of the iPhone 5C? Will it really help in turning the tides on the ongoing smartphone wars? Here's a couple of points to help you decide whether this phone is the right one for you.

Design
The first thing that separates this whole new iPhone handset from all of the other iPhones out there is the colorful design that has not been seen on any apple phone in history. All the typical iPhone controls are still present, the front and rear camera and flash are still visible. But what bugs me with the iPhone's colorful feature is that it reminds me (and a lot of people) of a recent smartphone with the same colorful casings (Nokia Lumia, anyone?)

Features
The iPhone 5C is running on Apple's latest iOS7 so it should be performing on top notch level while you use it. It's 4 inch retina display gives its users the same high definition experience one will have on the typical iPhones. Now this may not be large enough like the other iPhones and Android devices nowadays, but with the price tag of this baby, one cannot even complain.

Battery
This perhaps is one of the most important aspect of any smartphone in general yet it seems the most neglected one. But somehow Apple has managed to give this baby a whopping 10 hours of talk time, 10 hours of web browsing via Wi-Fi or LTE and 250 hours of stand by time. And given the juice time of a lot of devices out there, we can say the iPhone 5C is a competitor in this area.

Price Tag
With just a price tag of $99 USD or roughly about 4,300 PHP, the iPhone 5C is really an eye catcher and will surely get the attention of many Filipinos who are looking for a great performing device with an affordable price tag. This will surely rock the 4,000 to 5,000 range Android and Windows smartphones once it hits the Philippines shores.

Verdict
For a very affordable price and the name of the brand it carries, the new iPhone 5C will surely make an impact on the cheap smartphone market not only in the Philippines and the US, but on the other areas of the world as well. The only downside of this device may only be its plastic cover, which will be tested through time, not to mention the availability of free apps on Apple's app store. But who knows? On the rise of cheap Indian and China smartphones, this will just be a perfect match.

Tech: Smartwatches - Is it a threat to smartphones?

Is Samsung’s Galaxy Gear the First Truly Smart Watch?

With the recent news about the release of Samsung's own line of smartwatch called the Samsung Galaxy Gear, there were a lot of mixed emotions and reactions about it. Some say it's probably one of the greatest thing to happen since the dawn of super smartphones and some say it will just fade into the blackness like a lot of other "breakthroughs" that tried to go head to toe with the huge wave of smartphones and tablet production like a lot of PC company's efforts to sell Ultrabooks. But unlike Ultrabooks, these smartwatches could possibly pose a threat to the booming smartphone industry. But could it really? There can be multiple factors and I'll be stating a few.

Convenience
For more than a decade, man has been trying to reduce the giant breakthroughs of the past into their own pockets. Supercomputers became the modern PC, then came out the laptops, then the netbooks, and then it turned to tablets and smartphones which it may be painful to admit, can work double and more efficient than the older models of PC's. But with these smartwatches, not only were they able to pack so much into something so little, they even made it more convenient by shaping it into a form of a watch. Which I can say, is a bit more convenient to carry around than a bulky smartphone.

Functionality
As stated above, smartphones and tablets can now function more efficiently than computers of the past. So needless to say, everything you would ever need from a computer can now be within an easy reach. But can manufacturers pack in so much power into something that can be strapped into your wrist? Only time will tell. But for now I could only say they can just put in so much but may not give the overall functionality that smartphones and tablets possess nowadays.

Price Tag
Gadgets nowadays can be described in one statement: as they get smaller, they get more expensive. But some say the price does compensate for the convenience it provides, plus the power is uncanny. Take for example, Sony's Xperia Z, one of the highly regarded smartphone in the market today, costs at about $769 or roughly 34,000 in Philippine peso. And for some people (those who can really afford it), consider this price reasonable as the gadget's performance is top notch. The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, can be yours for the price of $299 or roughly 13,000 Philippine peso, the same price for a Dell tablet or an iPad mini. Can people pay for something more than 5 times smaller than an iPad mini? Only time will tell.

Verdict
There is no final verdict on this one my friends. As it is too early to judge the fate of smartwatches for now. Maybe people will bite into the convenience it brings, sacrificing a small portion for a greater purpose perhaps? But as I have said earlier, only time will tell. How about you guys? Are you ready for the smartwatch craze? If I were to ask, I'll wait just a little bit more, for smartwatches to turn out like these before I bite in:
